Testing blogging ability

This is just a test to see how well the blog works.

Inaugural Year

Welcome to an exciting inaugural year at Herbert Akins Road Elementary School. This year will be similar to becoming first time parents. Much anticipation and high expectations, yet we have little insight to the great deal of work ahead. The PTA is designed to be the much needed support system along the way. Providing a network of people working together to foster the best outcome for the HARES students, staff, families, and our community.

Research shows that student achievement is directly linked to parent involvement. So, we are asking you to use your talents and resources to make a difference. There are opportunities for everyone no matter your area of interest, time constraints, or background. We welcome parents, grandparents, family friends, neighbors, relatives, and caregivers.

Communication will be "going green" with newsletters, flyers, and documents posted online and sent via email. This will streamline the connection between school and home life to help all of us stay informed quickly and efficiently. Becoming a Member of our PTA will assure you the fast track to everything happening in and around our new school.

Your help and ideas are always encouraged and welcomed. Together, we can prepare a solid foundation for many successful years for our students and the Herbert Akins Road Elementary School.

Who Are We?

We are Herbert Akins Road Elementary School (HARES) parents who are actively involved in our children’s education. The majority of PTA members are parents. The PTA is an organization that works directly with the HARES’ school principal to help promote education programs, health and safety programs, school legislation and curriculum, and school community programs for our children.

We are here to promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community and place of worship. We strive to raise the standards of home life and secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth. We work hard to strengthen the relationship between home and school by aiding parents and teachers to cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.

What is the Parent Teachers Association (PTA)?

The Parent Teachers Association (PTA) started at a National level with the creation of the National PTA. The National PTA is the oldest and largest volunteer association working exclusively on behalf of all children and youth. The first official meeting of the National PTA was on February 17, 1897. Over the next 100 plus years, the National PTA has promoted the education, health, and safety of children, youth, and families. North Carolina became a member of the National PTA in 1902 and helped the movement take hold and grow throughout the United States.
